Summary
Those with Down syndrome (DS) face many co-occuring conditions and challenges. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and hypothyroidism are equally prevalent in adults with DS, but relationships between onset and age of both conditions had not been explored until this study. After analyzing hypothyroidism in those with DS, the authors recommend early testing of thyroid functions in those with DS. They also emphasize the need for future studies to determine how hypothyroidism affects AD risk.
